Alamo Canyon Panorama

“Alamo Canyon Panorama” (64″x22″, 2020) is a tribute to my favorite section of the Arizona Trail. When I caught my first glimpse into the canyon, I was awestruck by the grandeur of the landscape stretching before me. I wanted to celebrate the vastness of the high desert landscape by creating a large-scale wool felting of Alamo Canyon in the Tonto National Forest. Spanning more than five feet long, this felting, the largest I’d created at the time, was a multi-month undertaking. Using reference photos to confirm the scale of the details of the felting–such as a 40-foot-tall saguaro cactus reduced to 0.25 inches in wool–made the immensity of the high desert more perceptible.
