Durango-Silverton Railroad

“Durango-Silverton Railroad” (24″x18″, 2018) is a recreation of a landscape found near the western end of the Colorado Trail, after the trail descends the Elk Creek drainage to cross the Animas River. As the trail crosses the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, hikers looking back toward the Grenadier Range are treated to a view of Mount Garfield rising dramatically in the distance. I found this juxtaposition of the built environment and the formidable landscape startling—much like the return to civilization after time in the wilderness.
