“Saguaros at Twilight” is based on a series of photos from my 2019 Arizona Trail hike. Looking for a place to make camp after a long day of hiking, I was struck by the unmistakable silhouettes of ridge-top cacti standing in sharp contrast to the gradient of colors at sunset.

This felting features the pastel rainbow of a sunset’s tail end. Heavy periwinkle clouds hang overhead, sure to dissipate before the following day. In the foreground, aloes, ocotillos, and various other desert flora–hiding places for the night-active desert inhabitants–grow at the base of a quartet of venerable saguaro cacti.
